Showcase of science
Physics teaching building TU, Braunschweig
The new building for the Institute of Physics is an stand-alone building in a prominent location that mediates between the northern part of the East Campus and the university high-rise building to the south and, thanks to its location, serves as a visible landmark for the East Campus of TU Braunschweig. The building was designed to have a spacious inner courtyard around which the various functions on the different floors are grouped and which is available to the institute as an inviting and sheltered outdoor space. The building itself is built order. It appears like a physical apparatus and thus conveys its use to the outside world, mediates in terms of urban space and invites people to pass through. The façade with its concrete grid looks austere but is merely the frame for what happens inside the building. It is a showcase for the science and university landscape in the best sense.
