a new police station for the BER
Police station, Schönefeld
Well look at this, Berlin has a new airport. It now also needs a new police station. It will be located on an area already used by the police, which is bordered on one side by the railway line towards BER and on the other by a busy road. The planned building emphasises visitor-friendliness and functional modesty. The three-storey L-shaped structure creates space for workplaces, visitor areas, police custody, technical and storage rooms and rooms for the service dog handlers and their animals. The height is based on the existing building height from the 1970s on the police site. Facing the street, the building has an accentuated and transparent entrance area that is inviting and open to the public. The façade arrangement consists of a rigid layering of parapet and window bands. The irregularly edged bronze-coloured corrugated sheeting is always offset against each other in bands, creating a subtle interplay in the façade and an interesting effect.
