School extension, Cologne
The demand for school places is increasing almost everywhere, so a modular solution makes sense in order to be able to respond flexibly to different situations. Sehw Architektur has reviewed the newly designed modular buildings at several locations in Cologne, and the results are impressive. Sehw has completed another school extension at the Fühninger Weg site. The compact, three-story building in modular timber construction adapts to the challenging topography at the edge of the campus. A covered walkway connects the new building with the existing post-war modernist building. The façade consists of curtain-type fiber cement panels in a light sand tone. Inside, expansions in front of the science laboratories create an open learning atmosphere. The modular design optimizes construction time and material consumption and reduces the ecological footprint.
